The London Borough of Hackney are seeking expressions of interest from artists and collaborations to undertake an exciting piece of work to design bespoke railings and gates for a proposed housing development in Hackney, being led by Hackney Council, and designed by architects Child Graddon Lewis (CGL).
This commission provides the opportunity for artists to use their creative skills to enhance the local townscape and provide an enduring installation for this prominent location. The successful artist will need to work with CGL to create an attractive and practical design for the ground level railings of the proposed medium sized, mixed tenure development in Hoxton, playing on and enhancing the architecture of the new building. The artist will need to have experience of working with relevant materials, metal work and/or product design, as the design will need to be manufactured for use; the railings will need to be produced for under £150/sqm.
Please submit two sides of A4 explaining your relevant experience & suitability for this commission to Eleanor Wright ([email protected] / 0208 356 3019) by midday 30th November.
Following assessment of the Expressions of Interest received, between 2 to 4 bidders will be invited to apply for this piece of work, and a brief will be issued in December to be returned in late December/early January.
Please note:
- The successful bidder will be expected to specify the installation strategy and/or the manufacturing of the product.
- This commission will be awarded a suitable budget inclusive of artists’ fees; this will need to cover all costs including artists’ time for design development, manufacturing of a sample and specifying technical information for production. The budget level will be agreed ahead the brief being issued.
- Artists/collaborations who live and/or work in Hackney are encouraged to apply.
- Given the cross-over of this commission, we welcome collaborations of appropriately skilled people to work together on this piece of work.
