Derailed Lab will use a series of long distance journeys as vectors for experimental interdisciplinary research projects, using design and art practices to explore and document the spaces that index the geopolitical issues which shape the contemporary world.
We are looking for architects, artists, writers, explorers, scientists, geographers, economists, students/ researchers to join us for 3 weeks this summer in July.
We will start in Sankt Petersburg and will traverse Siberia by train all the way to Vladivostok. We are looking at ways of mapping such a large territory and the opportunities this landscape might offer.
Research themes include: Vladivostok is set to become a key city for tourism in the Asia Pacific region, China turning from a manufacturing centre to the biggest consumer market, which increases the potential for sale of Russian goods, Post-Soviet consciousness and the international image of the east, advantages given to agriculture by global warming in such a harsh climate and their implications to the wider world, the rapid forms of urbanisation taking place along the railway...and much more.
Start date: 10th of July in Sankt Petersburg
End date: 30th of July in Moscow
Price: 1550£ includes accommodation, transport, workshops, conferences,seminars, lectures for the 3 weeks period of the summer school.
