A unique opportunity to experience this beloved public sculpture and surroundings with Design Nation colleagues and with special guest speaker John Scott, as he discusses material, fabrication and condition in context. Active in art and heritage conservation, science and cultural history, Scott is President of the NY Conservation Foundation.
Well versed in artist Picasso's remarkable collaboration with artist-fabricator-technician Carl Nesjar to produce over 30 such sculptures using Erling Viksjø's Betograve process, John has led conservation treatments and the monumental cross-campus move of the duo's largest 'Head of a Woman' sculpture, for Princeton University.
John provides sculpture care throughout Princeton's Campus Collection, and he contracts, consults, educates, and organizes for art and heritage conservation internationally, throughout the northeastern United States, and in our NYC metropolitan area.
Following time spent at the landmarked University Village, the event will conclude with a walk-through of the lauded yet underutilized and threatened garden at Washington Square Village.

Design Nation is a diverse project and network identifying and exploring mid-20th century integral art, craftsmanship and design aspects and their interplay with our built environment. Offering curated salons, events and resources, we offer encounters with historic, site specific art and design and its continued impact. Through insight from creatives, curators and conservators, the valuable stories of artists, craftsmen and their paths are shared along with discussions of fabrication, materials and stewardship.
