Hitoshi Abe is an internationally renowned architect winning acclaim for his design for the Miyagi Stadium back in 1992. His practice, Atelier Hitoshi Abe, is known for their spatially complex and innovative designs. In 2007, he was appointed professor and chair of the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design and in 2010, became the Paul I. and Hisako Terasaki Chair in the Study of Contemporary Japan as well as Director of the UCLA Paul I. and Hisako Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies.
