The Berlage Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design (The Berlage) is a new experimental institution for postgraduate education and advanced study in architecture and urban design, building on the achievements of the former Berlage Institute. Its postgraduate program expresses a characteristic engagement with reality and the production of new forms of interoperable architectural knowledge. This high-intensity, one-and-a-half-yearlong program is composed of three terms of study, consisting of design projects, and related seminars and fieldwork; colloquia; and master classes. In addition, a series of public lectures, conferences, and exhibitions complements the program. The Berlage provides the next generation of architects and urban designers with tools to better comprehend and intervene in the complex challenges of the contemporary built environment. Study is conducted in an in-depth collaborative and experimental setting. Unlike other postgraduate curriculums, The Berlage’s program is shaped to actively allow students to participate in real-life experiences, taking a step forward in becoming advanced professionals. Facilitated by the Faculty of Architecture, students will be able to profit from academic interaction with other departments and benefit from the TU Delft’s community, facilities, and resources. The Berlage's postgraduate program will be submitted to the accreditation organization of the Flemish and Dutch governments NVAO for accreditation during the 2012–2013 academic year.
