Join us for a hands-on workshop in coordination with the Center for Architecture's Exhibition, "Considering the Quake: Seismic Design on the Edge." Did you ever wonder how engineers and architects design buildings to stand up to the destructive forces of earthquakes? Join Sissy Nikolaou, with her colleagues of Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers and Tim Hayduk of the Center for Architecture Foundation in a hands-on workshop using the Considering the Quake exhibition. Participants will have an opportunity to create and test their own building designs on an earthquake shaking table to get a first-hand understanding of how earthquakes affect buildings. Projects featured in the exhibition will illustrate how architects and engineers use innovative technologies to create earthquake-resistant structural systems. Interactive experiments will demonstrate earthquake-related hazards such tsunamis, fault ruptures, and soil liquefaction. Exhibits will display the fascinating world of New York City underground! Price: $25 / person The Center for Architecture
