Orr Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics Oberlin College TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2009 6:30 pm The Great Hall Cooper Union Foundation Building East 7th Street at Third Avenue New York City The Institute for Sustainable Design at The Cooper Union was created in 2008, with support from philanthropist Jack Rudin, as a resource for education, research and public understanding of the principles and methods of sustainability in all design disciplines. David W. Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics in the Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College. He is also a James Marsh Professor at large at the University of Vermont. The recipient of numerous awards, he is best known for his pioneering work on environmental literacy in higher education and his recent work in ecological design. "I believe that educators must become students of the ecologically proficient mind and of the things that must be done to foster such minds.
