As London both expands along the Thames Gateway and prepares for the 2012 Olympic Games it will require new bridges to make new connections. SPANS explores a select number of contemporary bridges to explore different approaches to design, celebrating the joy of crossing, connecting places and engineering. Case studies include both major arteries and small pedestrian footbridges giving equal importance to both. One of the major features of the exhibition is the rapid prototype model of the Crossings project in Dorset produced specifically for the exhibition by Cadventure. Other major projects include the Xstrata Treetop Walkway at Kew Gardens, the 2012 Olympic Park Footbridge, the Mobius Bridge in Bristol, the Living Bridge in Limerick and many others. Additionally, the Cafe Gallery will host an exhibition on the renowned Millau Viaduct in France. The exhibition is part of the joint Building Centre/New London Architecture education programme and will be curated and produced by The Building Centre Trust. The Building Centre
