Celebrating Weinfeld's 40th year in practice, the retrospective features two exhibition pieces he made from sustainable tauari branco wood, a showcase of his furniture and product designs, and 13 new films he directed over the past year — one of those films right below:
Isay Weinfeld - Fazenda 3 Pedras
Another first for the exhibition was the American release of ISAY WEINFELD by Raul A. Barreneche, a monograph that surveys a selection of Weinfeld's most recent and highly regarded projects in his native country.
"A to Z" will be open until Dec. 1, 2013.
Here's a glimpse into Weinfeld's exhibition.
"Based in São Paulo, [Isay Weinfeld] has been responsible for some of Brazil’s most notable projects built in the last few years including the 360° Building, an award-winning 20-story residence; the Fasano Group’s portfolio of luxury hotels including the Fasano Boa Vista, winner of Interior Design’s award for best resort hotel; retail spaces like the Livraria da Vila bookstores and numerous shops along the Rua Oscar Freire; and stunning private residences."
"Throughout his career Isay has had a strong connection to the visual arts. He is consistently sought out to design buildings that showcase contemporary art and has created works himself, directing many award-winning films. The A to Z exhibit is an extension of his dedication to creative expression. A special structure has been built within ESPASSO to present the exhibit and it marks the first time the gallery has showcased a major, site-specific work."
"Each of the 13 short films Isay has directed attempt to convey the mood behind a completed project of his, using color, editing, pacing and music. The score of each film often relates back to a particular song Isay was listening to while he was designing each work."
"Published by BEĨ EDITORA, ISAY WEINFELD is the third book to survey his work. The new book highlights 17 projects through text, photos and drawings that give insight into Isay’s creative process for each. Projects featured include Livraria da Vila, Hotel Fasano and Forneria San Paolo, as well as flagship stores for Forum, Clube Chocolate and Havainas."
