Michael Sorkin Studio and Terreform: Metrophysics | Open now until December 4, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg
In 2005, Michael Sorkin Studio underwent "mitosis" through the founding of Terreform, a practice focused on "non-commercial—even utopian—projects and ambitions," such that the Studio could focus entirely on "ordinary" building while both firms profited from the other's research experience. This exhibit at SCI-Arc is testament to that relationship, looking to "projects with meanings rooted in the urban, including buildings and sites designed with both practical and polemical intent."

Lari Pittman: Mood Books | Open now until February 20, 2017, recommended by Alexander Walter
By now, you've surely heard about the satellite-tracking NASA Orbit Pavilion currently open to the public at The Huntington. (You have, right?) One more reason to finally make the trip out to San Marino's stellar art & garden estate is Lari Pittman: Mood Books. Six monumental illustrated books — in Pittman's signature vibrant painting style — are exhibited on grand, sculptural pedestals designed by LA architect Michael Maltzan.

Toba Khedoori at LACMA | Open now until March 19, 2017, recommended by Justine Testado
Artist Toba Khedoori is having her first major museum exhibition in 15 years at LACMA. The survey features Khedoori's newer painting as well as the mixed-media drawings she is known for. Many of her drawings depict enigmatic architectural forms from distanced perspectives, “rendering commonplace objects and spaces familiar yet decontextualized”.
