Planning ahead for another busy week in Los Angeles? Coming up this week, the WUHO Gallery will debut an exhibition about the U.S.-Mexico border, a one-day symposium about the “Landscape of Fiction” will happen at SCI-Arc, and LACMA is currently displaying prominent Los Angeles painter Carlos Almaraz. Curated by Nathan Friedman, this WUHO Gallery exhibition presents the U.S.-Mexico border “through a history of its material artifacts and the modes of representation they have motivated.” Original text, animation, photographs, scale models, and maps, will be on display.

Fear and Wonder: An Expedition through the Landscapes of Fiction | November 11
This SCI-Arc symposium examines how fiction has greatly influenced our perception of our world. Curator Liam Young brings together a panel of directors, concept artists, video game designers, actors, and storytellers including: Hannah Beachler, Production Designer (Moonlight, Beyonce’s Lemonade); Rick Carter, Production Designer (Star Wars: The Force Awakens); Mike Mignola, Comics Artist (Hellboy); Victor Martinez, Concept Artist (Blade Runner 2049); Jimmi Simpson, Actor (Westworld); David Delgado, Visual Strategist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Exoplanet Tourism), and more.

Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz | Open now until December 3
If you haven't seen it yet, LACMA is hosting the first major retrospective of Carlos Almaraz, one of L.A.'s most influential artists of the 1970s and 1980s. The exhibition features over 60 of Almaraz's works, including pastels, ephemera, and notebooks, mainly from 1967-1989.
