With St George's day
just around the corner and a sunny week forecast, the whole of London is
gearing up for a much more spring-like outlook. Make time for these
traditional, seasonal celebrations, as well as attending this week's talks,
exhibitions, and screenings.
Friend and Company Architects were awarded the 'Most Innovative' prize at this year's 'Don't Move, Improve' awards for their lightweight and upcycled kit. This free lunchtime talk from Adrian Friend will give insight into the processes and design behind the build.
Don't miss out on your last chance to see this year's 'Don't Move, Improve!' exhibition before it closes, showcasing the very best in renovation innovation and home improvements.
This screening of a 'poetic journey through the capital' will be followed by a panel discussion of both the film itself and how cities are represented on screen. 'London Symphony' is an award winning contemporary silent film which was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017.
This is the first ever British exhibition and auction of artistic dog kennels following the success of the concept across the pond. This fundraising collaboration between pet charity Blue Cross, photographer Drew Gardner, and American not-for-profit organisation Outdoor Arts Foundation, will be open until the auction of these 65 'BowWow Haus' projects next Thursday.
RIBA carries on with it's Europa Series, connecting ideas across the European boarders. Next week's discussion will look at the work coming out of both Northern Ireland and Ireland with speakers from practices on either side of the boarder.
Celebrations of St George this year ranges from the traditional to the contemporary, from markets and storytelling, to a fusion of hip-hop and morris dancing. Since it is little known that St George is not only the patron saint of England, but also Georgia, Spain, and Portugal, Borough Market is celebrating this mix of culture through produce and pop-ups.
