Abruzzo Bodziak Architect transforms the iconic facade of NY's Storefront for Art and Architecture into a rotating bookshelf

What are the books yet to be written? This is the question a new exhibit at the Storefront for Art and Architecture is asking us to explore. Reflecting upon the cultural contribution of architecture through the medium of books, the exhibit celebrates and evaluates the existing and the missing volumes of a history still in the writing. At a time when spaces dedicated to publications have become an increasingly rare species, it reminds us of all that remains to be explored.

Alongside the exhibit Architecture Books - Yet to Be Written, Abruzzo Bodziak Architects has designed an installation to give shape to these ideas. The team has transformed the gallery's iconic, rotating facade into public-facing bookshelves containing a selection of books from 1982—when the Storefront was founded—to today. Nominated by scholars, critics, museum directors, and historians, the displayed works, considered fundamental to the field, are shown alongside statements re-contextualizing their relevance.

Over the course of the exhibit, which runs through August 25th, the shelves will be further populated with additional contributions from publishers, non-profit organizations, creative collectives, and visitors. However, they will remain relatively sparse to suggest a trajectory for the future of architectural books, yet to be written.
