London's Royal College of Art is another step closer to finding the architect that will design their new £108 million (approx. US$140 million) South Battersea campus. The project is the College's big investment in expanding their research in computer and materials science, and related topics like the digital economy and intelligent mobility. Starting out with 97 firms who sent Expressions of Interest at the start of the invite-only competition, the RCA recently revealed the seven architecture firms who made it onto the final shortlist.
Scroll down to see the list.
The RCA's Architectural Selection Panel (ASP) shortlisted the following practices:
- Christian Kerez (Switzerland)
- Diller Scofidio + Renfro (US)
- Herzog & de Meuron (Switzerland/UK)
- Lacaton & Vassal (France)
- Robbrecht en Daem architecten (Belgium)
- Serie Architects (UK/Singapore)
- Studio Gang (US)
No designs have been released yet, so we'll have to wait for now to see what these talented firms have up their sleeves.
“This shortlist represents an exceptional cross-section of international talent all wanting to engage with a world class institution,” stated Dr. Paul Thompson, Rector of the RCA and Chair of the ASP. “The panel was particularly delighted with the range of talents and approaches, not least because the building has to reflect the radical nature, experimentation and high design standards of the world’s pre-eminent art and design university.”
The winner is expected to be revealed in October.
