3RD EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL BIM CONTEST
Registration Deadline: Sunday, Feb 18, 2018
Submission Deadline: Saturday, Mar 17, 2018
The 2018 BIM Competition asks applicants to reflect on the creation of a grammar school for 500 students in the city of Suresnes (France). Applicants should design the digital model including one or more builidings that will be located within an existing cluster. The Suresnes Open-Air School built by architects Eugène Beaudouin and Marcel Lods is located on this existing cluster block; Candidates should also include a proposal for repurposing it.

CLOG x ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE will critically examine AI from its earliest speculations to its future...and ours. Few topics have both piqued such curiosity and instilled so much fear, as has been demonstrated by countless fictional and non-fictional accounts and predictions concerning AI over the last century. But is artificial super intelligence really inevitable? Can artificial intelligence render actual human labor obsolete? [...] When might artificial intelligence actually surpass human intelligence? And ultimately, will AI lead to human prosperity or, as some argue, human extinction?

THE MUSEUM OF LANGUAGE, LONDON

The aim of the competition is to design an iconic museum of language in the heart of London that will deconstruct the science of linguistics into various aspects of- speech, script and sense. The proposal must not only become an archive for the past and present world languages but also serve as a learning center that works to develop languages and future communication systems.

Street Seats: Urban Benches for Vibrant Cities
Register/Submit Deadline: Friday, May 11, 2018
Design Museum Portland is inviting designers (whether individual or in teams) to design a sustainable, outdoor park bench with a focus on reuse, using environmentally-friendly materials and innovative construction methods. Semi-Finalist teams will fabricate their unique bench designs to be featured in an outdoor public design exhibition at the World Trade Center Portland in August of 2018.
