In the Gutter | Dingbat 2.0: The Iconic Los Angeles Apartment as Projection of a Metropolis | April 27, recommended by Justine Testado
If you've driven through the streets of L.A., there's a good chance you may have passed by at least one dingbat apartment building. The LA Forum for Architecture and Urban Design is hosting a book launch party for the release of Dingbat 2.0: The Iconic Los Angeles Apartment as Projection of a Metropolis. Published in collaboration with Doppelhouse Press, the book is the first critical study of the dingbat, considered to be L.A.'s most ubiquitous building typology. Join the LA Forum Wednesday night for a presentation and conversation on the future of the dingbat.

Graham Harman Lecture: "Why Art and Design are Central for Philosophy" | April 28, recommended by Paul Petrunia
In case you haven't noticed, architects have begun taking more interest in philosophy these days. You probably read Archinect's recent feature, “Timothy Morton on haunted architecture, dark ecology, and other objects”. You might also know that philosopher Graham Harman has joined the SCI-Arc faculty. West Adams Art Tour | April 30, recommended by Amelia-Taylor Hochberg
West Adams, one of Los Angeles’ oldest neighborhoods, is known architecturally for its high density of historic houses. But it is now increasingly becoming a home for art and artists, with a burgeoning gallery and studio scene starting to gain traction. Nonprofit group Design East of La Brea, aka de LaB, is guiding an art tour through the neighborhood’s galleries and studios, including a chance to meet the artists. The tour is set for Saturday, April 30, from 12pm - 3pm, with proceeds going back into de LaB’s programming.

2016 Venice Design Series: Architecture + Experience | April 30, recommended by Alexander Walter
This Saturday marks the beginning of the 2nd annual Venice Design Series, comprised of six site-specific special events in and around Venice, hosted by prolific architects, artists, chefs, designers, civic leaders, entrepreneurs, and performers. The first event of the series takes participants on a grand tour through — admittedly quite a bit east of Venice — Downtown LA's diverse neighborhood districts, such as the Historic Core, Bunker Hill, the Arts District, and Skid Row.
