Ah, neon—technological and advertising wonder of the 20th century, magnetic to they eye and a fundamental dressing to any city. With both photographs and historical background by Thomas Rinaldi, New York Neon is a eye-catching exploration of the city’s early- and mid-20th century neon signs. The Plant Show | Opening on July 29, recommended by Nicholas Korody
Back in February, I profiled Handjob Gallery Store, a gallery and furniture store that showcases its wares in wholly unique ways, blurring the line between fine and applied arts. Opening this week, in their sister space 99¢ Plus, the Plant Show promises to be a refreshingly original take on that most-ubiquitous object of home decor, the house plant.

Using Walls, Floors, and Ceilings: Beatriz Milhazes | Open now until October 23, recommended by Justine Testado
Beatriz Milhazes' hovering installation for the Jewish Museum's ongoing “Using Walls, Floors, and Ceilings” series is an ode to the lively annual carnival celebrations in her native Brazil. Collaborating with carnival float fabricators, Milhazes uses bright-colored, reflective float materials, adding a burst of colorful inspiration to the Museum's entrance lobby.
