New Economy Class Layout Design Competition

If we are to tackle this problem head-on and create a more intelligent, more creative way of organizing the increasingly expensive seats on a commercial airplane, we can take one step closer to a compromise that will let airlines keep their profit margins while customers can comfortably kick back, relax, and enjoy their ride through the sky.

The Goal

We believe the on-flight experience could be greatly improved by applying a smarter layout for seats in the coach and economy class sections of commercial aircrafts.

The seat layout that most airplanes use today is the same design that was brought into style when airplanes were first becoming popular. That is a big problem. When airplanes were first becoming popular the engineers and designers focused solely on the logistics of getting a certain amount of bodies from point A to point B without having to seriously consider a customer's comfort on the journey.

The goal of this competition is to propose a new seat layout for the coach and economy class sections of commercial airplanes that will make the flying experience more pleasant and comfortable. The new layout should be able to accommodate at least 95% of the actual proposal (and why not even more!).
