International Tropical Architecture Design Competition 2012 for Institutes of Higher Learning

CALLING FOR ENTRIES!

Jointly organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), this design competition is into its second year after a successful inaugural in year 2011 which attracted close to 60 entries from the Asia Pacific and South Asia regions.  This year, it will be held in conjunction with the International Green Building Conference from 10 to 12 October 2012.

THEME:

This year’s competition is themed as ‘Building a Sustainable Community for a Greener Future’.

Designs should take into consideration how end-users can continue to develop behaviours or actions that will keep the buildings green in the tropical climate. Projects should also focus on climatic adaptive building skins suitable for the locality identified, integrating landscape into the building design, incorporating passive and active design strategies, renewable energy (if any) and other ecological design features.  Entries can be of an entire building or a detailed study and it must include a degree of feasibility based on today’s available resources.

ELIGIBILITY:

It is open to students currently enrolled in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) in Asia Pacific, South Asia regions and beyond. Interested participants can submit as an individual or as a team of 5 (maximum). Refer to rules and regulations for more details.

FEE:

Participation is free.

REGISTRATION:

Step 1:
Email the completed the registration form, declaration form and scanned copy of each student’s ID by 31 July 2012 (UPDATED!) to Ms. Claryce Ng at [email protected]

Step 2:
Students to submit their entries by 13 August 2012 (UPDATED!) to the following address:-

SUBMISSIONS:

Students can submit their existing university projects to this competition if it meets the above theme and design criteria.
Entries must be received by 13 August 2012 (UPDATED!).

Required documents:

• A project brief (max. 5 pages)
• max. 2 x A1-sized Design boards
• CD with e-copies of the submission
• Optional: model

REVIEW & SELECTION:

All entries will be reviewed and the top 5 entries will be selected. One person from each of the top 5 entries will be invited to Singapore in October 2012 to present their projects to the Jury and receive their awards. For more details, please refer to rules and regulations.

AWARDS:

The Top 5 winners will be rewarded with the following award categories:

1st prize: $3,000 SGD
2nd prize: $2,000 SGD
3rd prize: $1,000 SGD
2 Merit prizes: $500 SGD (each)
