OPEN CALL - Curated MultiMedia Exhibition

In the open spirit of the Die Angewandte (Vienna) we are inviting artists to submit their work dealing with urban fabric and the decay of the post industrial era.

We encourage the artist to work with urban and industrial sounds and images, highlighting hidden yet public aspects of what is enriching to live in a metropolitan setting. A specific aspect of the project is to deal with these spaces and the way we perceive them.

The matter of perception of space can be expressed in many different ways. An example is the space between home and work and the journey in between. There is a space created by time, from the person we were to the one that we have become and the social spaces created by interpersonal relationships.

There is a focus on the 23rd district of Vienna - the Liesing industrial area.
We encourage work depicting this area that is so rich in character, but it is certainly not mandatory.

The selected work will be exhibited in an interim space - a place of former and current industrial life. The exhibition should bring attention to the loss of diversity brought by the emptiness of such spaces, due to the organic development of a city. The character of the venue should become the stage for the artwork to deal with this aspect.

The exhibition runs throughout the night from the 17th to the 18th of August.
The main media will be digital and analog projections. The artwork will be projected onto screens and onto the raw surfaces of the building's interior. At the break of dawn the projections will fade away as the sunlight floods the floor and the space will transform back to it's raw qualities.

We welcome multimedia or mapping projects. Although the majority of the art pieces will be shown through projection we do encourage freestanding sculpture and installation pieces.

The format of the entries should be as digital video, digital stills or analog color or B&W slides and optionally sculpture or installations.  In case of analog material we ask for a digital preview.

Original project (in case: digital preview), The onsite mounting and preparation may not exceed 3 days. If necessary artists are asked to organize the transport themselves.

Fotography, stills, etc.: 200-300dpi, any common format, applications should be handed in on DVD/datastick/ext. harddrive, the signals will be scaled to fit the screen,

Video - Technical setup (Single): PAL, 4:3 – playback via integrated SD,  applications should be handed in on DVD/datastick/ext. harddrive, the signals will be scaled to fit the screen,

Video - Technical setup (Panorama): PAL, 4:3 (VGA) – 2x6/18m x 3.75m, playback via Edirol V4040 HD, the signals will be scaled to fit the screen,

Sculptures/installations: Any material, any size, free standing prefered. Include a technical setup in your proposal.

14.8. – 16.8. – all day – set up
17.8. – 21 h - opening
19.8. – 20.8. – all day – disassembly
