Robot Design Competition 2012 (International Conference on Social Robotics)

This year the ICSR2012 will be held in Chengdu, China on October 29-31, 2012.
And in conjunction to the conference program, we are organizing the 3rd Robot Design Competition.

We are seeking the continual kind support to post the mentioned Competition on Bustler.

The main theme for this year Robot Design Competition is "Wellness”

The International Conference on Social Robotics brings researchers and practitioners together to report and discuss the latest progress in the field of social robotics. The conferences focuses on the interaction between humans and robots and the integration of robots into our society. The inaugural conference was held in Incheon, Korea (2009), and after the very successful ICSR2010 in Singapore & ICSR2011 in Amsterdam, we are proud to have ICSR2012 in the enchanting city of Chengdu, China.

The theme of the 2012 conference is “Wellness”. This theme gives focus on the potential and capabilities of social robots to assist humans achieve better physical, mental and emotional health and wellness. The conference aims to foster discussion on the development of computational models, robotic embodiments, and behavior that enable social robots to have an impact on the human partner’s health and well-being.

Adjacent to ICSR2012, the 3rd Robot Design Competition is organized. We invite you to submit to this competition!

Submission are invited from design professionals, students (all levels), and scientists, not only from Industrial Design departments. In this 3rd Robot Design Competition, we invite you to create a social robot for the year 2020, an age where intelligent social robots built with consilience will grey the boundaries of human and machine interaction. In the light of the theme “Wellness” of ICSR2012, the competition will focus on social robots of the year 2020 that will impact the human partner’s health and well-being; through natural, affluent, and purposeful interactions assisting humans achieve better physical, mental and emotional health and wellness.

The submission can be conceptual or work-in-progress prototypes, but must contribute to “social” robots (not limited to healthcare, service, entertainment, home, transport, sports and education). Competition entries will be evaluated during the conference by an international panel of experts in robot design. Your entry should address innovative ideas that demonstrates (not limited to) creative use of technologies, intelligence, interactivity, adaptability as an overall concept application(s) that will impact/ improve human emotional and physical well-being; which governs by laws of robotics (Isaac Asimov).
