The Gullele Botanic Garden is planned to be realized on a large tract of land, North West of the city of Addis Ababa, straddling the escarpment west of the pass on the Gojam road. The project is to be realized in three phases, with Phase I and II being the subject of this competition.
The project program consists of several building ensembles, outdoor facilities and gardens. The project aims to turn the tide of environmental degradation, rehabilitate damaged eco-systems and ensure sustainable use of natural resources, by serving as an example of proper environmental management for the Horn of Africa region. It envisages enabling the study of nature, promotion of sustainable use of biodiversity resources and demonstration of appropriate environmental technologies.
A registration fee of BIRR 100 (or EURO 10) shall be paid to the competition secretariat on application. A refundable participation deposit of BIRR 2,000 (or EURO 150) shall also be paid at the time of registration. The deposit shall be refunded to all participants, who submit a bona fide design, within one month of announcement of awards.
