This Green Sky Thinking event brings together the Institute of Physics (IOP), TateHindle and AECOM to discuss the creation of a new home for IOP which is currently on site. The leading scientific society will be moving from its current headquarters in Portland Place to new premises in Kings Cross in spring 2018. The 26,000 sq ft building will be highly sustainable and showcase innovative technology.
For the first time in its history, IOP will have a public building, providing education and exhibition facilities for the public, the local community and schools alongside start-up incubator space, café, members’ room and staff offices. The client and design team will consider elements of the project including the challenges and opportunities of creating a building suitable for the 21st century; how the design supports IOP’s ambition to engage different communities and make physics more accessible to a wider audience; and also explore the advanced technologies the building will benefit from.
Chaired by Mike Burton, Director Building Engineering, AECOM
