ACADIA 2019

Thursday, Oct 24, 201912 AM — Saturday, Oct 26, 201911:59 PMCST

University of Texas at Austin Austin, TX, US Austin, TX, US | University of Texas at Austin

The theme of ACADIA 2019 Austin is Ubiquity & Autonomy. We find ourselves at a moment where a schism is developing in digital design and the world of computation. On one hand, we agree that everything is interconnected. We are in a network society, driven by technological connectivity. There is no longer a divide between analog and digital processes; the digital world is ubiquitous, inescapable. On the other hand, the discourse of architecture is drifting toward theories and practices of a more autonomous nature, practices that in many ways reject connectivity in favor of discretization and articulation. Furthermore, this schism has taken root in our disciplines renewed interest in aesthetics, not only in representation and theory, but as a pedagogical approach to design and the very nature of how technology is being used. We look forward to papers, projects, keynotes, workshops, and discussions that tackle this theme and stoke the debate.
