DIALOGUES: ART/ARCHITECTURE, PARIS/LOS ANGELES

Tuesday, Apr 2, 201310:44 PM — Tuesday, Apr 16, 201311:14 PMEDT

ForYourArt, 6020 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA Los Angeles | ForYourArt, 6020 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA Los Angeles

In its second phase, DIALOGUES offers an exhibition of drawings and models by artists and architects from Paris and Los Angeles at ForYourArt. On view from April 2-16, 2013, the exhibition focuses on media key to both art and architectural practices, as well as videos, books, catalogues and posters that allow the public to become familiar with the careers of the thirty DIALOGUES participants. The exhibition also includes audio selections from panel discussions at the MAK Center that comprised the first phase of the project. There will be a public opening reception on April 2 from 6-8 PM. DIALOGUES not only gathers artists and architects from Paris and Los Angeles, it focuses especially those whose cross-disciplinary work dissolves traditional boundaries between the professions. Several of the artists often work in the architectural field, and many of the architects collaborate with artists. DIALOGUES contributors include: Doug Aitken, Berdaguer/Pejus, Barbara Bestor, Claude Collins-Stracensky, Dahlqvist/Hommert, Escher/Gunewardena, Didier Faustino, Yona Friedman, Cyprien Gaillard, Fritz Haeg, Piero Golia, Ibai Hernandorena, Marie Jager, Alice Konitz, Vincent Lamouroux, Won Ju Lim, Tom Marble, Jorge Pardo, Claude Parent, Francois Perrin, Ivette Soler, Linda Taalman, Oscar Tuazon, Xavier Veilhan, Eric Wesley, Pae White and Peter Zellner. The exhibition features models and drawings that represent current and recent work by all the participants. In many cases, these are new or rarely seen examples. Among many highlights of the exhibition are a large watercolor by Doug Aitken; a drawing developed by Claude Parent for a house in the south of France; poster selections from Fritz Haeg; a public art sculpture proposal by Won Ju Lim; the remodel of a castle by Xavier Veilhan; a model of a structure by Eric Wesley; and a concrete model by Peter Zellner of a house in Tijuana. On the final night of the exhibition at ForYourArt, Tuesday, April 16 from 6-8 PM, there will be a closing reception and the last panel discussion featuring Barbara Bestor, Claude Collins-Stracensky and Vincent Lamouroux, moderated by Andrew Berardini. Currently, one panel at the MAK Center remains, on Wednesday, March 27 from 6-8 PM. Participants include Frank Escher, Ravi Gunewardena, Won Ju Lim, Tom Marble, Didier Faustino and Pae White, moderated by Danielle Rago. All DIALOGUES events are offered free of charge. DIALOGUES is organized by Francois Perrin, a French architect practicing in Los Angeles. He previously curated the exhibition Yves Klein: Air Architecture at the MAK Center in 2004. Upon completion of DIALOGUES, DoPE Press will publish a book about the project, including transcripts of the four panel discussions and visual and biographical materials on each participant. The program is part of Ceci n'est pas...Art between France and Los Angeles a five months art and cultural exchange. It is supported by Etant Donnes, The French American Fund for Contemporary Art and The Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angeles. www.dialoguesproject.org
