Collective Design Fair, a new design event in New York City, will host 24 international galleries presenting a cohesive selection of vintage and contemporary design for its inaugural edition, Collective .1.
The programming for Collective.1 draws on the vitality and creativity of New York as a center for design and innovation. It includes participation from some of the city’s most notable curators, collectors, designers and other creative professionals.
To celebrate design connoisseurship and collecting, Collective has created a full program of events, tours, conversations and book signings, all of which will take place on site.
Free curated tours will be offered daily by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the Official Cultural Partner of the fair. Tours will start daily at 12 noon and require advance registration. Tours for children ages 4 to 10 will be organized by Little Collector, the online contemporary art gallery for kids.
Collective Conversations is a series of panel discussions moderated by experts such as Tony Freund, Editor and Director at 1stdibs; David Brody,Associate Professor of Design Studies and Director of the MA Program in the History of Decorative Arts and Design at Parsons The New School; and Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer of the online magazine Sight Unseen.
A series of book signings will also bring acclaimed authors to the fair. Signings include Christopher Bascom Rawlings, author of Fire Island Modernist: Horace Gifford and the Architecture of Seduction(Artbook/DAP); and Jeffrey Head, author of Paul Evans: Designer and Sculptor (Schiffer).
Wednesday, May 8, 2013, will be designated Museum Day, and Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum members will gain free admission. All other museum members will receive a 2-for-1 admission. Valid proof of museum membership will be required at the entrance.
