image During Archtober—New York City’s month-long celebration of design and architecture—the sixth annual Architecture & Design Film Festival will return to Tribeca Cinemas with its most ambitious and exciting program to date. Over the course of five days (October 15- 19), the festival will screen 25 short and feature-length films, including three world premieres and six 3D films, from all over the world exploring various themes of art, architecture, design, fashion, urban farming, and more. In addition to the curated selection of films, ADFF will present a series of intimate discussions with architects, designers, industry leaders and filmmakers as well as three panel discussions focusing on the rapidly growing influence of women in architecture, the work of legendary designer Eileen Gray and the importance of well-designed civic spaces. Tickets for specific film screenings are now on sale at the Tribeca Cinemas Box Office and online at www.adfilmfest.com. The talks are free and open to the public. Thursday, October 16th (7:30–8:30pm) Women in Architecture: Working at Every Scale For the first time in history, women are designing our world and creating some of today’s most iconic architectural designs. In a panel led by Architectural Record editor-in-chief, Cathleen McGuigan, three prominent female architects will discuss their own experiences expanding upon some of the themes in Making Space: 5 Women Changing the Face of Architecture. Panelists include: Mimi Hoang, AIA, Partner at nARCHITECTS; Jill Lerner, FAIA, Principal at KPF; and Claire Weisz, FAIA, Founding Principal at WXY. Saturday, October 18th (5:30–6:30pm) Why Gray Matters Moderated by film director, writer and producer Mary McGuckian, this panel will discuss the impact of Eileen Gray’s life and work from the perspectives of an academic, a museum curator and a renowned collector of rare furniture and art. Panelists include: Caroline Constant, Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan; Dr. Jennifer Goff, Curator of the National Museum of Ireland; and Dr. Stephen Kelly, owner of the Kelly Gallery in New York. Sunday, October 19th (5:30-6:30pm) Civic Place Moderated by Lance Brown, AIA NY 2014 President, this panel will look at the design and impact of public places. The festival has a number of films that explore this subject including Christiania – 40 Years of Occupation and Neon. The diverse panel includes: Yolande Daniels, partner at studioSUMO; Claire Fellman, ASLA, director of landscape at Snøhetta; Hana Kassem, AIA, director at KPF; and Kevin Kennon, AIA, founder of Kevin Kennon Architects. Many of filmmakers, directors, and producers will participate in Q&As following the screening of their films including: filmmaker/director Eric Bednarski (Neon); filmmaker/director Alessio Bozzer (Why a Film About Michele De Lucchi); filmmaker/director Luciana Fina (In the Midst of Things); filmmaker/director Ultan Guilfoyle and producers Alice Sure and Janice Stanton (Making Space: 5 Women Changing the Face of Architecture); filmmakers/co-directors Richard Jackman and Robert Lawson (Christiania – 40 Years of Occupation); filmmaker/director Kyung Lee and architect Eugene Tssui (The Fantastic World of Eugene Tssui); and filmmaker/director Marco Orsini (Gray Matters).
