James Stirling was known over the years as Blimey, the Birdwatcher, the BW, the Beachcomber, the Seedy Viking, Jumbo, Lucky Jim and around the world now as Big Jim. He is arguably as well-known for his larger-than-life character as his seminal architecture, a big fan of wine, food, birdwatching and jazz.
In collaboration with Spiritland, this evening will celebrate James Stirling’s love of jazz music with live renditions of some of his vinyl records which have kindly being lent to RIBA for the evening by Mary Stirling. Hear from life-long friends of James Stirling, including writer, architect and Emeritus Professor of Architecture at Princeton, Robert Maxwell who studied at Liverpool University with Stirling.
