The competitors were asked to restructure the former trade port into a so called Science Port as a destination for innovative businesses and a place for knowledge transfer.

From the competition brief: “The University [of Magdeburg], research institutes, college, leisure facilities and creative companies have all crept one step closer to the dock and its warehouses, whose backdrop is the picturesque bank of the River Elbe. What is needed now are new ideas and, above all, the experiences gathered in other European cities, so that additional projects can be materialized and the vision of a vital science quarter can be made a reality as an integral part of the city.”
