Although the Copenhagen Architecture Festival held its first event just last year, they're off to a great start. The growing architectural film festival recently won the prestigious Lille Arne award from the Danish Architect Assocation during the association's New Year's reception. The award is given to projects or works that give a reinvented and well-rounded presentation of architecture and its multi-facetedness, in addition to creating relevant architectural debate.
The other nominees for the award were The Danish Arts Foundation's ’Kan vi tegne et nyt land?’ (Can we draw a new country?); The Cultural Minister; Marianne Jelved’s speech at the Venice Biennale of Architecture; and the ’Innosite’ initiative by Realdania and The Danish Energy Agency.
Learn more about the Copenhagen Architecture Festival below.
"The Festival started in 2014, and with nearly 4,000 audience members it instantly became the world’s second largest of its kind. Behind the Copenhagen Architecture Festival are Festival Director Josephine Michau, Head of Development Mads Farsø, and Head of Program Peter Møller Rasmussen. They have their respective backgrounds in Film, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture."
'We are highly interested in how film and architecture are explored across the globe, thus bringing us in contact with similar international festivals, in countries such as; Chili, Portugal, Holland, Montenegro, Romania, Sweden, The United States and more, plus interdisciplinary researchers from all corners of the world - Some of them brand new, while others have years of experience under their belts', says Festival Director Josephine Michau."
Preparations for the 2015 festival program are already in the works. In March 2015, the festival will have around 70 events spread out on Aarhus and Copenhagen. Scheduled events include film screenings, talks, walking tours, a big international exhibition, a conference on housing, master classes, and interactive workshops.
The festivities will continue in Aarhus and Copenhagen throughout the spring season and later this September. The final 2015 program will be announced on March 4. Tickets can be purchased starting at approx. US$60 (or 400 Danish Krone) here.
