Designer Pages, the industry-leading online platform for architectural product and material specification, just announced the winners of the Spec*Stars awards, recognizing the top-performing brands and products in architecture and design. Rather than the typical jury-led awards program, Spec*Stars uses real-world data to identify the actual specification activity among designers in the AEC industries. Designer Pages PRO's platform collected close to half a million specifications from December 1, 2017 to November 30, 2018. There were no entry fees required, allowing all brands and product manufacturers to be automatically eligible for an award.
Designer Pages CEO Jacob Slevin expressed how this all-inclusive approach is new to the industry, “As I looked around, I was disappointed to see that the A&D awards programs felt so highly manipulated, either by Editors' favorites, entry fees, statistically irrelevant sample sizes, and/or fake voting. At the end of the day, designers and manufacturers alike should have an objective measure of brand and product penetration and performance. Spec*Stars does just that.”
The award categories are broken down into most popular product types, with the winners representing some of the bigger names in the industry. Slevin commented, "...my only regret is that the larger brands, certainly those that have been in business for many years, are clearly favored. We are already thinking about how we might introduce new categories and/or product launch date filtrations to additionally showcase up-and-comers and further reduce any statistical biases."
