Keeping Current: Repetitive Loss Properties

Van Alen Institute, in collaboration with the City of North Miami, is looking to identify an interdisciplinary team to develop a master plan and pilot project to reimagine public uses for flood-prone vacant lots (formally known as FEMA-designated repetitive loss properties). This competition asks: How can we design spaces that promote climate-consciousness? How can we reimagine underutilized communal spaces to bring the community together and adapt to climate impacts over time? How can these sites be repurposed to reduce the cost of flood insurance for communities?
CTBUH 2019 International Research Seed Funding
Register/Submit Deadline: Friday, May 31, 2019
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is accepting proposals for its 2019 International Research Seed Funding – culminating with an award of $20,000 to be recognized at the CTBUH 2019 World Congress. The goal of the seed funding is to assist talented researchers in developing projects/ideas to a level that would secure additional, more significant, funding – in conjunction with the CTBUH. Research proposals should directly relate to the tall building typology and/or urban habitat, but can come from any topic/discipline.
Architecture of the Territory

Collective for Architecture Lebanon is calling for submissions for the “Architecture of the Territory” exhibition at Beit Beirut. The exhibition will showcase proposals of architectural territorial projects in Lebanon that have been developed, researched and conceived in various academic contexts over a period of minimum one semester, with the aim of triggering debates and conversations on the urgency to rethink Lebanon’s national territory planning and its impact on the nations faith and future.
Paris Affordable Housing Challenge

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, Nov 12, 2019
The Paris Affordable Housing Challenge is tasking participants with designing a sustainable solution to Paris’ affordable housing problem. There is no specific location defined for this architecture competition, as such designs should be versatile enough that they can be adapted and rolled out across multiple locations in order to increase the capacity of the city’s housing stock.
The Complete City: Imagined

In 2017, the Portland Society for Architecture (PSA) asked citizens and visitors to provide their vision of Portland, Maine on blank maps of the city. PSA distributed these maps as a tool to encourage civic engagement in defining Portland. Now, The Complete City: Imagined invites the public to use these wildly diverse and imaginative maps as inspiration for what Portland can become in the future.
