The curatorial theme of 2x8 this year reflects on the dialogue surrounding housing in Los Angeles and other urban centers across the country. This year, AIA|LA intends to create a dialogue around the topic of housing by asking schools to submit student work that responds to the current housing crisis. In conjunction with this student show, the 2×8 committee holds a competition, open to faculty, to design the exhibition.

A Vision of the Future: Heath Park Design Competition
Register/Submit Deadline: Tuesday, Feb 11, 2020
The RIBA has launched the 'Vision of the Future' competition to reimagine The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn, Cheshire. SOG, the owners and operators of the park, is particularly interested in ideas that promote health and happiness and eradicate loneliness and poverty; a model development that can be replicated and applied anywhere, that places the health and wellbeing of a living, working community at its core.

American Roundtable: Call for Proposals
Register/Submit Deadline: Tuesday, Feb 18, 2020
American Roundtable is a new Architectural League initiative, which will bring together on-the-ground perspectives on the condition of American communities and what they need to thrive going forward. The Architectural League will commission up to ten editorial teams to produce reports featuring diverse voices, expressed through diverse media, creating portraits and agendas for places they know well. The initiative focuses on small cities and towns and rural areas. Commissioned teams will be awarded $10,000 to support their work, which will be published digitally on archleague.org and in a series of print publications.

Brewed - Cafe design challenge
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, May 20, 2020
Submission Deadline: Monday, Jun 1, 2020
The challenge here is to design a Coffee House, a space that transcends to the concept of cafes that we see today. The aim of this challenge is to help participants practice micro planning of spaces & services, translating ideas into design of volume, furniture and finishes. It seeks to explore a coffeehouse/cafe for Vienna that embodies today’s architecture style while taking inspiration from its existing heritage.
