The winning EIRA Lounge designs for Portugal's Bons Sons music fest

By Bustler Editors|

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Rendering of the winning entry by Orlando Gilberto Castro and Tiago Ascensão.

ideasforward invited designers worldwide to send proposals to the EIRA Lounge competition for Portugal's Bons Sons music festival in the Cem Soldos village this August. Entrants had to design a sustainably built lounge space for festival-goers to meet up, socialize, and relax during the festival.

Since the EIRA Lounge will be near the main EIRA concert stage, the structure can't be distracting during performance sets. Though of course, the Lounge would also have to be an approachable, complementary space.

After the jury convened in Cem Soldos last week, they selected three prize winners and 12 honorable mentions. All prize winners won 4-day Bon Sons tickets, while the 1st-prize winner also got 1,000€ and will have their EIRA Lounge proposal realized. The winning and honorable mention designs will be exhibited during the festival.

Check out the winning entries below.

1ST PLACE: Orlando Gilberto Castro, Tiago Ascensão | Porto, Portugal

1ST PLACE: Orlando Gilberto Castro e Tiago Ascensão | Porto, Portugal

Jury Comments: "The proposal reflects an understanding of the place of Eira and the territory of the village in the days of the festival context and responds clearly to the questions posed in the competition briefing and was unanimously considered the first classified. The winning project is a structural element capable of transforming the Eira grounds of a square that includes stage, shading structure and natural environment. The proposal crea tes a strong reference in the village space through a significant and relevant projetual gesture. The ceiling defines a shading area during the day and a scenographic structure overnight. The jury valued the concept of simplicity, the viability expressed in the proposal with technical details, since deploying to the definition of constructive pormonores, which support the feasibility of the structure."

2ND PLACE: Lorenzo Majer, Anna Merci | Paris, France

2ND PLACE: Lorenzo Majer, Anna Merci | Paris, France

Jury Comments: "The jury highlights the poetic expression in the creation of a minimal and delicate  pavilion. The answer is assertive regarding the released premisses and build a light  atmosphere that reflects the duality of day-night space. It was also highlighted the possibility of creating a participating project, as well as ease of reuse in later editions of the festival."

3RD PLACE: João Torres Navarro, Concha García Rodriguez, Ana Martínez Pardo, Sofia Calvo Ovejas, Sofia Álvarez García | Madrid, Spain

3RD PLACE: João Torres Navarro, Concha García Rodriguez, Ana Martínez Pardo, Sofia Calvo Ovejas, Sofia Álvarez García | Madrid, Spain

Jury Comments: "Third prize surprised the jury for its literal objectivity and unusual expression. The relevance in the response is emphasized by the creation of an ambience / identity easily multiplied and dispersed in the village territory. The jury also highlighted the iconographic capacity of the project as well as the original layout."

Jury:

  • LUIS FERREIRA, director of Bons Sons festival
  • DIOGO AGUIAR, Like architects
  • ANA JARA, atelier Artéria
  • PEDRO NOVO, Pedro Novo arquitectos
  • RITA JOÃO E PEDRO FERREIRA, atelier Pedrita
