The RESHAPE14 design craft competition sought the most inventive digitally fabricated designs that also exhibit strong qualities of performance and manufacturing, and are cost-efficient. Focused on the topic of Living, participants had freedom in their approaches. The most important thing was to communicate a clear fabrication strategy.
Daniel Gillen of dgd:DGILLENdesign and his team (Xu Feng, Colby Suter & Hayden Martis) won an Honorable Mention for their entry, the "T"able in the first round of the competition. The table's distinct look pays homage to the communal ritual of preparing and drinking tea, as well as the mountainous landscapes where specialty teas are produced.
You can also sign up for the RESHAPE15 wearable technology competition until May 31.

Project description:
"The Table is a unique representation of the mountainous topographies in which specialty teas are produced. Tea is known far its health benefits and it’s ability to rebuild damaged cells in the human body while the industrialization of tea production removes and erodes our planets natural landscape. Man's use of the land supports economic growth. Iike the pixelated mìning of the Tabes’ Landscape supports its surface."
"The customary act of preparing and drinking Chinese Tea called Chayi (“Art of Tea”) involves a cleansing ritual begun by pouring out the first brew and letting it wash over cups and utensils at the table. As Tea rains on the mountainscape the tables terraced stream collects and channels runoff."
"The iconic ‘T’able is a catalyst for discussion; a place for the sharing of ideas. dreams, and Tea, with family and friends, loved ones, even a perfect stranger. While enjoying your Tea you can reflect on both the serenity of nature as well as how we can positively impact it. Proceeds from each ‘T’able sold go directly Io local Tea farmers arid to preserving their ecological Landscapes."
