The Beacon is a design competition for an architectural structure than can be set alight or can contain a natural light source. The competition involves the design of a structure in or on which a fire can be made, the primary purpose of which is to act as the opening ceremony centrepiece torch for the Lemba Lights Festival at the Cultural Village of Lemba, Paphos, Cyprus in August 2018.
The Site
The site is the Lemba Plaza, an area currently being created as a meeting point for those living and working in the village, either at the art and architecture school, the local pottery workshop, or local residents.

An information pack containing the brief and site photographs will be made available upon registration.
Prize: The winning entry will be constructed after consultation and agreement with local landowners and planning officials, and feature as the centrepiece of the Lemba Lights Festival in Paphos. All entries will be exhibited at the Cyprus School of Architecture in an open public event in August 2018. The entries will also be published in-print and online.
Entry: The competition is open to students, recent graduates, and qualified architects, lighting designers, artists, and related disciplines. Teams of up to 5 will be permitted. After registration, you will be directed to an information pack including an extended brief and site photographs.
The submission requirements for the competition are simple, and should rely on single immersive images to explain the design scheme. Costings and technical drawings are not required.
