When the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was created as a living memorial to the 35th President of the United States, nations around the globe offered gifts in honor of President Kennedy. When the Center was opened to the public in 1971, the young nation of Israel, not yet 25 years old, gave the gift of the Israeli Lounge.
In an effort to reimagine the Israeli Lounge, as the Kennedy Center’s undergoes an ambitious expansion, the Center is holding an international design competition. The room is, and should continue to be, a visual representation and celebration of modern-day Israel. The re-energized space will host Kennedy Center donors, patrons, and guests for receptions and dinner parties as well as provide a relaxing lounge space before performances and during intermission.
The design competition and reimagining of space are made possible by a gift from Mikhail Fridman and LetterOne.
The Kennedy Center invites designers to share a vision of a redesigned Israeli Lounge. Submissions are due by 14:00 Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, April 23, 2018.
To participate, all Individuals and Teams must register by completing and submitting the registration form. Specific information about the competition, registration and submission requirements may be found on the competition webpage. Additionally, please feel free to contact Mary Timaeus at [email protected] or (202) 416-8332 with any questions.
