Together! The New Architecture of the Collective

Saturday, Jun 3, 201710 AM — Sunday, Sep 10, 20176 PMCEST

Vitra Design Museum, Charles-Eames-Str. 2 Weil am Rhein, DE Weil am Rhein, DE | Vitra Design Museum, Charles-Eames-Str. 2

The scarcity and expense of housing is continually on the rise. In recent years, new forms of communal living and building have emerged all over the world in response to this challenge. The exhibition presents the most innovative examples, illustrates new living typologies and forms of participation, and introduces architects of the movement, including ON Design Partners, pool Architekten, Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter as well as ifau – institute for applied urbanism, Jesko Fezer and Heide & von Beckerath. »Together! The New Architecture of the Collective« also draws attention to precursors of the present trend, from utopian settlements of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, to social housing projects in the 1920s, to protest movements from the 1960s to the 1980s, when the inhabitants of many major cities sought alternatives to housing shortages and real estate speculation. The exhibition features a secret revolution in contemporary architecture, examining the social and economic ideals that serve as its foundation. More

An exhibition of Vitra Design Museum, curated by Ilka and Andreas Ruby and EM2N.
