A collaboration of Phu Hoang Office and Rachely Rotem Studio (now re-established as MODU) has won the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach/Creative Time 'Oceanfront' competition to design an outdoor public art pavilion during the contemporary art fair.
Their 'Exhale' Pavilion will feature seven miles of hanging reflective and phosphorescent ropes to produce a canopy that shimmers and glows in the night. It will also interact with the wind, creating a dynamic space with a constantly changing form. All of the materials will be recycled after the show, including the concrete, which will be used to form an artificial coral reef in the ocean.
The 25,000 sq. ft. pavilion will be open to the public from December 1 - 5, 2010 and will include video and performance artists as well as an impressive DJ lineup during the fair.
