BIG is about to make its debut in the UK. The Architects' Journal reported that the Danish firm has been selected to design the public square in the £8 billion redevelopment of the historic Battersea Power Station, a decommissioned coal-fired power station in southwest London. A formal announcement is yet to be made.
Situated within the Rafael Viñoly-designed masterplan, BIG's scheme for the public square is described as becoming the gateway to the revamped power station.

BIG — who is working alongside the Malaysian-backed Battersea Power Station Development — is set to join the redevelopment plan's star-studded list of architects. Reportedly titled "Malaysia Square", the public square will be linked to Frank Gehry's + Foster and Partners' proposed pedestrian "high street". Restoration specialist architects Wilkinson Eyre will refurbish the power station, while Ian Simpson + drMM is in charge of designing the development's Circus West residential housing scheme.
Rafael Viñoly's masterplan for the new Battersea Power Station spans 39 acres of the River Thames frontage and comprises over 3,400 new homes as well as offices, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, community and leisure space, and 18 acres of open space.
