Shortlist announced for Moscow’s New National Center for Contemporary Arts (New NCCA)

Ten architecture firms from around the world have been shortlisted to move on to the second stage of the international design competition for Moscow’s new National Center for Contemporary Arts (New NCCA). The list of qualifying firms was announced at a press conference in Moscow on Oct. 1.
Shortlisted in the category "Dossier":
- Steven Holl Architects (USA)
- Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos (Spain)
- Heneghan Peng (Ireland)
- 51N4E (Belgium)
- Alejandro Aravena (Chile)
Shortlisted in the category "Preliminary Concept":
- UNK Project (Moscow)
- WAI Architecture Think Tank (China)
- Anton Barklyanski (Perm)
- MEL (Moscow)
- Ghirardelli Giancarlo Architect (Italy)
During the second competition stage, the participants are going to begin the development of architectural concepts in accordance with the terms of the bof the competition. A final concept, followed by a complex layout, should be provided for Jury review prior to November 29, 2013.
The finalists will be announced after the second Jury meeting at the beginning of December 2013. The Board of Trustees will determine the winner of the competition, led by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky, and Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin.
