A Better World by Design and the Billy Taylor Project are challenging the Providence community to take part in shaping the future of the Billy Taylor House. Billy Taylor mentored and inspired countless youth in his powerful but short life. After his passing, the house in which he lived was abandoned. The Billy Taylor Project is dedicated to the refurbishment and appropriation of the property to be used as a community center to better the Mt. Hope community.
The Project aims to transform the second floor and yard of the house to create a place to meet-up, celebrate, and engage the local community in Billy Taylor’s honor. A good proposal will consider how to foster learning, community building, and innovative programming making use of the current architecture of the house. Design proposals should include detailed plans for the layout and programming for the space to affect, inspire, educate and unite local youth.
The winning designer will work with the Billy Taylor project on implementing their proposal. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions:
FIRST $1000
SECOND $500
THIRD $250
The winning designs will also be showcased at the 2013 A Better World by Design Conference, held September 27th - 29th.
