Multipli-Cities is a 6-day workshop that will explore topics such architecture, public art, design, urban planning, regeneration and sustainability in an era when more than half of the world?s population lives in cities.
The workshop will also examine the way in which architecture is responding to the pressures posed by the growth ?mega-cities? vis-a-vis de-population of other urban and rural areas. In order to maintain their socio-political and economic status, cities are developing disguised commercial strategies: biennials, athletic events, international fairs, among many others. Architecture always plays a central role in the realisation of such projects. Liverpool is an example. That is why we are concerned with questions about imagined cities, future urban landscapes and future architectures.
There will be ten different groups where participants will have the opportunity to explore any of the above-mentioned issues in close collaboration with a guest tutor/critic. Every day will start with a short lecture followed by studio work and tutorials sessions in the school. The day will close with an evening open discussion where participants and critics will share their work experiences. The last day, the projects produced by each tutor group will be presented, reviewed and awarded by categories. Selected projects will be exhibited at the RIBA North West gallery in the city.
