Does your gingerbread yearn for a destiny in the annals of architectural history? Do you dream of pushing the structural limit of frosting and peppermint? Maybe you just enjoy playing with food? Well bring it on, because we’re having a build-off!
Architecture Center Houston, C2 Creative, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, and Houston Management Downtown District will host the Second Annual Gingerbread Build-Off at Market Square Park, Saturday December 11, 10am to 3pm.
25 teams of up to five people each will compete in this year’s build-off and will have only a few hours to construct a Gingerbread Building using nothing but edible components. In addition to the coveted Grand Prix de Show, prizes will be given in categories including Best Architectural Icon, Tallest Standing Structure, Best Traditionally Themed, Best Non-Traditionally Themed, and Most Creative Use of Materials. Gingerbread buildings will be judged by an independent panel of food, design, art, and architecture professionals. Winners and select competitors will be featured in a one week exhibition, free and open to the public, at Architecture Center Houston.
Team registration is $50 and is available online or by contacting Architecture Center Houston at [email protected]. The public is invited to attend this free event, cheer on the teams, and construct a mini-gingerbread building at the kids table for free.
Sponsorship opportunities are available to support the event. Contact [email protected] for any event or Sponsorship inquiries.
In the event of rain, the Gingerbread Build-Off will move to Architecture Center Houston.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.
