Arraiolos Castle – an open international ideas design competition of recover

A – CHALLENGES OF THE COMPETITION

“ Arraiolos Castle – an open international ideas design competition of recover ”  - is an open design competition in two stages and intends to obtain the five best proposals that will be invited afterwards to make a more developed study.

There are two different levels for the proposals:

1) The castle walls

A – to promote the rehab of the castle walls;

B – to arrange all the facilities to the turist visitors of Arraiolos ( bar and public toilet facilities);

C – to create a ‘sheep area’ – in order to create a full interaction with the future ‘Carpet Museum’.

2) The conections of the Castle and the urban center

A – to promote the existence of new cultural equipments:
Carpet Museum
Dórdio Gomes cultural house
Art Sacred Center

B – to establish an evident connection from the urban center to the top of the hill – Castle – with significant paths and evident routes;

C – to think the parking area

B – COMPETITORS

The competition is open to all Portuguese registered architects with approved university/college education, and all foreign architects and landscape architects that meet the educational requirements, according with Directive 2005/36/EC of 7th September 2005 / Chapter III.

Portuguese is the official language of the competition.

C – JURY PANEL

Entries will be judged by the folowing jury:

-Jury leader nominated by Arraiolos City Council;

-One architect nominated by Arraiolos City Council;

-One member nominated by ‘Instituto de Gestao do Patrimonio Arquitectónico e Arqueológico, - I.P.’

-One landscape architect nominated by Portuguese Association of Landscape Architects;

-One architect nominated by ‘Ordem dos Arquitectos’ (OA) – Portuguese Architect’s Guild.

First step of REGISTRATION – after ordering the process, fill REGISTRATION FORM and send it to the above mentioned address.

-  By filling and signing Registration Form (A) - you request the purchase of the competition pack with all the digital information;

Name, address, telephone and e-mail contacts of the applicant should be clearly identifiable.

REGISTRATION FEE:  the total cost of this order is 10€ (ten euros)+ 20% TVA + mail charges.

F – DELIVERY

Submissions must be delivered to the competition address given in ‘E’.
The deadline for the delivery of entries is defined in ‘I’ – COMPETITION TIMETABLE.

Submissions sent by mail:
It is not the date stamped on the Entries that is valid.
Entries, sent by mail, must be delivered to the ‘Competition address’ till the established deadline.

H – AWARDS / PRIZE MONEY

The jury has at his disposal a total amount of 26 500,00 € (twenty six thousand five hundred euros) for prizes. This total amount is distributed in:

1st prize ..............….. 10 000,00 € (ten thousand euros)
  2nd prize….................  7 500,00 € (seven thousand five hundred euros)
  3rd prize….................  5 000,00 € (five thousand euros)
  4th prize………………  2 500,00 € (two thousand five hundred euros)
  5th prize………………  1 500,00 € ( one thousand five hundred euros)
