HATCH Architecture Competition: GROUNDBREAKERS
HATCH Asheville 2011 and AIA Asheville Young Architects Forum present the first annual GROUNDBREAKERS architecture competition for current architecture students and young professionals. The theme for this year’s HATCH Asheville for the discipline of architecture is Design for Action! . The GROUNDBREAKERS competition is an open call to young professionals and current students of architecture that believe architecture can enact change for good. If you think design can change the world and ask yourself “What if?” on a regular basis, we are interested in celebrating your work here in Asheville! Participants can submit thesis projects, built works or any speculative works. We just require vision, innovation and a call to action.
Awards
Up to 3 GROUNDBREAKERS will be chosen by a jury of leading figures in design. The winners will receive funding to travel to HATCH in Asheville, NC April 14-17 2011 to present their work and participate in an inspiring weekend of mentoring, networking and dialogue with luminaries and other groundbreakers in Architecture, Design, Fashion, Journalism, Music, Photography.

Eligibility
Entrants must be architecture / design students or professionals with that have graduated from a school of architecture in the last 10 years.
Registration Deadline:
The registration deadline is March 14, 2011, 11:59 PM PST. The fee to register is $25.00. To register and pay the registration fee go here. Once you have registered and paid the registration fee you will be sent a unique ID number that you will include with your submission along with your contact information.
Submission Deadline and Guidelines:
To be eligible submissions must be received via email at [email protected] by March 14, 2011 11:59 PM PST. Participants are to submit a maximum 10 page folio of a work or works addressing the competition theme Design for Action! in .pdf format (max. page size 8.5”x11”). To insure a blind review process no personal information or images of the likeness of the participant can appear on any pages of the folio.

HATCH is a biannual four-day experience that energizes creative professionals and thought leaders who are serious about transforming their ideas and talents into bold action, while inspiring others to do the same. While HATCH invites the mentors and groundbreaking artists, anyone with a creative spirit can participate. During HATCH, local studios, galleries, theaters, concert halls, and other select locations throughout downtown Asheville become HATCH venues that host experiential exhibits, panels, workshops, and networking events. Everyone has intimate access to influential industry professionals across a range of creative disciplines.HATCH 2011 will bring over 70 top professionals from seven creative fields to Asheville and Bozeman to act as mentors.
