Cities have a soul and a spirit, and this spirit shapes the people who live in or pass through a city. The same spirit shapes the way we do things, conduct ourselves, project or embody or reflect our individual or shared values, have relationships, do business and make places for ourselves. The way we make architecture.

Great cities make people make great places. This competition is premised on a genuine faith in the value of the spirit and soul of Johannesburg as a design driver. Johannesburg as the many cities that co-exist simultaneously in it. The promoters are looking for a real, gutsy, head-on, hands-on, honest, intelligent, tangible, pleasurable, joyful, creative, appropriately tough, nurturing place that takes its flavour from the place that is Johannesburg.

Jozi Style is real. It exists. It has been overlooked. The time has come for Brand Johannesburg to be takes seriously and counted. If New York is the Big Apple, we are the Big Deal. If New Orleans is the Big Easy, we are the Big Hectic. The City of Johannesburg Property Company is looking to work with creative people who share its belief that the value of land in Johannesburg lies in large part in the fact that this land is in this place called Johannesburg.
