Urbantine Project: Fast Architecture Design Competition

Register/Submit Deadline:  Tuesday, Jul 17, 20076:38 AMEDT

In our rapidly changing world the workspace has to evolve, mutate, be fluid - does there need to be a Fast Architecture to respond to this condition?

Project Aim
The Urbantine Project emerged from the realization that there are limited opportunities for unrecognized architects and designers to showcase their ideas and philosophy in the UK. The Urbantine Project at Tent London provides an opportunity to readdress this issue, affording the winning entry the opportunity to put their design in front of thousands of the most influential designers, companies and design-savvy consumers during London Design Week at Tent London, Truman Brewery, Brick Lane. The winning entry will also have the opportunity to engage with an organisation, Workspace Group, which aims to provide progressive, appropriate, affordable and considered workspace accommodation for London’s creative industries.

Project Brief
This year Workspace Group is sponsoring the Urbantine Project, and therefore we are asking unrecognized architects and designers to tackle the issue of rapid change in the 21st century workplace. We want you to write a scenario to which you can respond to through design, and then propose a physical installation to be constructed at Tent London within a 10k budget.

Your installation must be able to be assembled in 48 hours and disassembled within 24hours, ready for repeat use to enable future exhibition opportunities. Maximum dimensions: 5m L x 5m W x 5m H.

See Examples of Fast Architecture

Judging Criteria
A. A design which demonstrates your solution to the brief.
B. The illustrated ability of the designer or practice at the application stage to produce a professionally presented 1:1 scale installation within a 10K budget.

Prize
10K Build & construction budget.
Free venue for 6 days at Tent London, Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.
Access to over 35,000 designers and architects during the London Design Festival.

Application Deadline:
16 July 2007
