11th International Bauhaus Colloquium: Architecture in the Age of Empire

Thursday, Apr 2, 20096:55 AM — Monday, Apr 6, 20096:55 AMEDT

Weimar, Germany | Weimar, Germany

Since 1976, Bauhaus Colloquia have addressed hotly debated topics in architecture and urbanism, bringing together distinguished experts and upcoming scholars from all over the world. They are the oldest and most renowned conference on architecture theory and history in the German-speaking world. For more information about the past colloquia and their publications, please refer to http://www.uni-weimar.de/cms/?id=bauhaus-kolloquium&L=1 Next year's meeting, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus, will examine the architectural implications of

  • modernization and globalization;
  • projective vs. critical practice;
  • affect, ornament and atmosphere;
  • architectural expertise and design intelligence.
The full program will be published in January 2009. There will be, in addition to 20 invited lectures in the plena, four workshops for doctoral candidates and emerging scholars, in order to create a lively debate. These workshops will be tutored by distinguished scholars and practitioners. All information and details about the program as well as the 'call for papers' for the workshops, with a brief description of the topics of the colloquium, are also available at http://www.bauhaus-kolloquium.de
