Expanding Schools? AltBuild Hosts Panel on Sustainability Practices in School Systems that are Build

Friday, May 8, 200911:30 PMEDT

Santa Monica, CA | Santa Monica, CA

Who is constructing new schools and/or rehabilitating older structures? How are schools incorporating sustainable practices? Panel highlights such school systems as the renegade Green Dot Public Schools, which could add up to six new schools in 2010 and frequently engages architects for innovative renovations as well as ground-up design. And the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, which has such ambitious plans afoot as combining elements of its Santa Monica High School with the Santa Monica Civic Center, as well as more traditional on campus structures. Panelists: Steve Barr, Founder & Chairman, Green Dot Public Schools; Larry Eisenberg, Executive Director for Facilities Planning and Development, Los Angeles Community College District; Stuart Sam, Director Facility Improvements, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District; Moderator: Alissa Walker, Journalist. I.D., Fast Company, ReadyMade, The Architect's Newspaper, Los Angeles Times.
